South Manitou Island

South Manitou Island is a part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. As part of the National Parks System, it is of great importance that this area does not fall into disrepair. Mihm Enterprises Inc. were contracted to restore various structures onsite as well as provide additional access to them. We were honored to be a part of this project.

Construction included: New Windows and a new roof, Structure Stabilization, Handicap accessibility and waterproofing on the Fog Signal Building.

Slate Roof repairs, New windows, Painting,  structure stabilization, Gutters and Downspouts, Masonry repointing and Handicap accessibility on the Keepers Quarters.

A new boardwalk and retaining wall were installed as well as various concrete sidewalk paths to promote handicap accessibility to the Lighthouse Complex along the Lakeshore.

Continued another season of Offshore lighthouse work on North Manitou Shoal lighthouse.

2018 work on the lighthouse focused on the crib, repairs included:

  • finished the complete blasting and painting phase
  • removed all steel windows, restored windows, ready for install in 2019.
  • Installed TPO roof on upper gallery deck,
  • Performed lantern restoration with new curved tempered glass
